The students at McCrosson speak Ojibwe and English. They are very proud of their Ojibwe language and are always eager to teach virtual visitors in the classroom some of their language. Our students are compassionate and care about each other. In terms of academics many are visual learners. All students enjoy nature and being outdoors in our outdoor learning area. Land based learning is important as many of the students visit their outdoor spaces as often as possible.

The grade 4-8 students receive their Ojibwe language instruction via distance learning every day. They are proud of learning their language and are eager to share some vocabulary with you! Please ask them to share a little about their community and language as they may be open to sharing what they know!

Students at McCrosson Tovell can tend to be quiet and may have heads down (especially the older students). Please know this is not an indication of not listening. Students love and respond well to hands-on activities, especially building, painting, creating, dancing, singing and movement. They are very talented artists and love their opportunities to create and show off their incredible talents! They are a wonderful bunch of loving kids who do not have a lot of positive life experiences outside of their home communities.

In our region, important seasons and special events are Harvest Week in October, Literacy Week in February and recognizing Orange Shirt Day (now also the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation, on September 30th), Pink Shirt Day (February 23rd), and the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls and Two-Spirit People (May 5th). We post regularly on Facebook and welcome you to join and learn about some of the activities at our school's Facebook Page.

We look forward to you connecting with our students!
