About Sk'aadgaa Naay Elementary School

Sk'aadgaa Naay Elementary is a public elementary school in Skidegate, British Columbia. Opened in September 1999, it is one of the only public schools in BC on reserve land. It is one of four elementary schools in School District 50 Haida Gwaii.

School District 50 is an amazing and unique place to have the opportunity to learn! We embrace this special place and character in our goals, and acknowledge the challenges of our remote location as well. We continue to support all our students to be successful through building relationships and connections at all levels and by addressing issues of isolation and remoteness. We ensure that these do not limit our student’s opportunities, support, and success in whatever field their future takes them. Our hope is to create curious, resilient, and flexible learners able to successfully navigate the challenges of the 21st century.

Goals:
1. To reduce the academic disparity between Haida and non-Haida students
2. To improve literacy achievement levels for all students
3. To increase student social responsibility
